LULLABY AND DREAMSEQUENCE.
Opus. 16
Instrumentation: Bass Trombone and Piano
Duration: 6 Minutes, Two Movements
Commissioned By: Stefan Stolarchuck
PROGRAM NOTE.
Written as a commission for Michigan-based trombonist Stefan Stolarchuck, I wanted to experiment with the extraordinary range of expression inherent within the bass trombone. I chose a fairytale-like story as a programmatic vehicle for the work, and divided the work into the two movements to further the effect of the subject matter. With this construction, I wished for the audience to first be welcomed or lulled into this world of enchantment, and as a result be able to take part in the ‘dream sequence’ experienced by the toy soldier.
